CDK Cyber Outage Disrupts U.S. and Canadian Auto Dealerships
A cyber outage at CDK, a major retail technology and software provider for automobile dealerships, has entered its second day, significantly disrupting operations for auto dealers across the United States and Canada. The outage, which began on Wednesday, has affected a considerable portion of BMW Group dealerships, among others.
CDK announced that it is actively working to restore its systems and resume normal operations as soon as possible. The company had initially shut down all systems to investigate the incident and identify the cause of the disruption.
The impact has prompted dealers to prioritize the protection of their customer information. The National Automobile Dealers Association emphasized that dealers are seeking detailed information from CDK to understand the extent of the cyber incident and respond appropriately.
Privately owned vehicle dealer Holman disclosed that the outage had even affected its phone systems, adding another layer of difficulty for its daily operations.
The incident comes after investment firm Brookfield Business Partners acquired CDK in April 2022 for $6.41 billion, transitioning the last major publicly traded software provider for auto dealers and manufacturers into a privately held company.
