Foxconn to Invest $551 Million in New Projects in Vietnam
Foxconn, a major supplier for Apple Inc., is set to invest approximately $551 million in two new initiatives located in Vietnam’s northern coastal province of Quang Ninh. This move signifies the company’s ongoing efforts to diversify its manufacturing bases beyond its traditional stronghold in China.
Major Projects in Industrial Zones
According to a recent announcement on the Quang Ninh provincial government’s website, Foxconn has been granted a license for a $264 million project. This endeavor, situated in the Song Khoai Amata Industrial Park, aims to produce smart entertainment products, with an anticipated annual capacity of around 4.2 million units.
Additionally, Foxconn has received approval for a $287 million project in the Bac Tien Phong Industrial Park. This project is focused on manufacturing smart-system equipment. The cumulative investment for these two projects bolsters Foxconn’s total financial commitment in the province to approximately $1 billion.
Expanding Global Manufacturing Footprint
Foxconn’s principal subsidiary, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., is renowned for assembling a majority of the world’s iPhones. The company has been actively expanding its production footprint, establishing new manufacturing sites in countries such as India and Vietnam. These strategic moves aim to mitigate risks associated with over-reliance on any single country for production and to leverage cost-effective labor markets.
Provincial Government Support
The Quang Ninh provincial government has pledged to form a working group dedicated to aiding Foxconn in accelerating the development of these projects. This initiative includes offering supportive measures and creating favorable conditions to ensure that construction is completed by September 2025.
Previous Investments
Last year, the provincial government announced two other Foxconn investments in Quang Ninh. These projects, aimed at producing electronic components, are supported by a total investment of $246 million.
The ongoing and substantial investments by Foxconn reflect its commitment to Vietnam as a crucial hub for its manufacturing operations. This expansion aligns with the broader trend of global companies seeking to diversify their supply chains and production bases amid an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
