Google Expands Gemini Chatbot Feature to More Android Devices
During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) earlier this year, Google introduced a new feature enabling users to access a chatbot directly from within the Google Messages app. Initially limited to newer Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones, Google has now extended the capability to any Android device equipped with 6GB of RAM or higher.
This development was first reported in conjunction with the feature's launch in India. Currently, Google Messages supports the chatbot, named Gemini, in English across 164 countries, with an additional support for French available only in Canada. Notably, the service has not yet been introduced in France. Google's representatives mention that efforts are underway to expand availability to more languages and regions.
To utilize Gemini, users must ensure their devices are set to English, or French if located in Canada. Furthermore, users must be at least 18 years old and should manage their Google Messages account independently. Another critical requirement is having RCS (Rich Communication Services) chats activated on the device.
Steps to Access Gemini
To engage with Gemini, users can simply open the Google Messages app and start a new conversation, where the option to interact with the chatbot will be available. The chatbot facilitates various functions such as drafting messages, planning events, or engaging in casual conversation.
Future Improvements and Language Expansion
Although currently limited to specific languages and regions, Google is actively working on expanding Gemini's linguistic and territorial support. Users can look forward to broader accessibility in the near future, bringing more convenience and functionality to the Google Messages app.
