Huawei Achieves Decade-Long Technological Milestones in Operating Systems and AI
In Shenzhen, China, Huawei Technologies announced significant advancements in various technological fields, including operating systems and artificial intelligence. According to Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, the company accomplished in a decade what took U.S. and European counterparts three times as long.
Speaking at the inauguration of a three-day developer conference in Dongguan, Yu highlighted the successes of Huawei's Harmony operating system, now present on over 900 million devices. "Harmony has made significant breakthroughs," Yu stated. "In ten years, we have matched the core technological progress that took our European and American counterparts more than 30 years."
Additionally, Yu revealed that Huawei's Ascend AI infrastructure, which he described as the most robust by a Chinese firm, has become the second most popular globally, trailing only behind Nvidia, the market leader in AI chips. Despite the longstanding dominance of U.S. and European companies in operating systems and software, Yu emphasized that the internet of things era has allowed Huawei to potentially surpass them.
According to research firm Counterpoint, Huawei’s HarmonyOS overtook Apple's iOS in the first quarter of 2024 to become the second best-selling mobile operating system in China, behind only Android, with a 17% market share.
