Elon Musk's X Tests AI Model Grok with "More About This Account" Feature
Recently, Elon Musk has been experimenting with the artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of the Grok model on the platform X. Among these capabilities, X has unveiled a feature named "More About This Account," which aims to provide users with AI-generated summaries about other users. However, the initial feedback on this feature is less than impressive.
The "More About This Account" option appears when paid users hover over a handle or display name on the web. By clicking on this button, users can generate an AI-powered synopsis about the account in question. Unfortunately, the provided information ranges from overly generic to blatantly incorrect.
For example, when the Grok model was asked to provide details about specific colleagues such as Sean O'Kane and Amanda Silberling, it returned basic details about the nature of their posts. It even inaccurately described Jagmeet Singh as an expert on Canada, despite his minimal posts on the subject. Another editor, Ram Iyer, was humorously labeled a "brunch account," and the SVP of design and product at an ed-tech startup was mischaracterized.
Inaccuracy and Limitations
X does include a disclaimer stating that Grok version 1.5 is an early feature and can make mistakes, advising users to verify the information it generates. Nevertheless, the inaccuracies and lack of substantial detail raise questions about the feature's current utility.
Even in cases where the information is not incorrect, Grok often fails to provide insights beyond what is already visible in a user's account and bio. Given that Grok has access to user data within X, expectations were higher for the feature to deliver more accurate and comprehensive information.
Need for Improvement
The launch of the "More About This Account" feature reveals significant room for improvement. The AI model Grok shows potential, but as of now, it does not significantly enhance the user experience on X. The feature requires reassessment and enhancement to meet users' expectations and provide genuinely valuable insights.
Despite these shortcomings, this experiment reflects an ongoing effort to integrate AI capabilities into social media platforms, albeit one that is currently a work in progress. Going forward, users will be looking for more reliable and detailed outputs as the technology gets refined and updated.
